3. KEKERE Fund for Emerging Artists
Amount: Up to $ 2,000
The fund is intended for outstanding emerging artists from the continent who do groundbreaking work and creatively challenge harmful narratives within their local and digital communities. This scholarship will be awarded to up to 25 exceptional artists.

MASA 2022 : Call for applications to artistic groups, circus, storytelling, dance, comedy, music, slam, theater

From 05 to 12 March 2022, the 12th edition of the Abidjan Performing Arts Market (MASA) will be held in Abidjan.
Are eligible under the official program, creations meeting the following conditions:
1. A show less than three (3) years old.

2. The number of the group, including the supervisory team and the manager, should not exceed :

– 3 people for the humor ;
– 3 persons for the slam ;
– 3 persons for storytelling;
– 8 persons for contemporary dance (for the solo: 3 persons);
– 8 persons for the music;
– 10 people for the circus and puppet;
– 10 people for the theater;
– 15 people for heritage dance.

The members of the same group will travel to and from Abidjan from the same city. This must be specified in the application form.

3. Sets and props must be neither heavy nor cumbersome and must be transportable on regular flights.

4. The application file for the official selection of MASA 2022 will include :

4.1. A letter of application addressed to the General Direction of MASA ;
4.2 Three (3) high definition (HD) stage photos of the group;
4.3. A video recording of the show. Teasers and video clips are not accepted;
4.4. A list of creations and broadcasts of the last three (3) years or a press-book ;
4.5. A distribution sheet indicating :

– an e-mail address and a telephone number of the group’s referent;
– the city of departure of the group (NB: only one city of departure and return for the whole group without exception);
– a list of the names of the persons composing the group with the date of birth and the function in the group;
– the first and last names of the stage manager for the music, the administrator for the other disciplines;
– the first and last names of the author, director or choreographer.

4.6. A presentation of the show specifying :

– the date of creation ;
– the theme and approach;
– a summary of the story staged for storytelling, humor, dance and theater;
– the texts of the songs for the music and slam.

4.7. The technical sheet indicating :

– the dimensions of the desired scenes;
– the lighting and sound requirements for the show and the technical personnel needed;
– the length of time required to set up and dismantle the show;
– the weight and volume of sets and props.

NB: MASA reserves the right to propose other technical arrangements.
The documents transmitted remain the property of the MASA, which undertakes not to exploit them for commercial purposes.

Application files can be :
– deposited on the MASA website via the application form available online;
– sent by mail to the address MASA General Directorate, Plateau, Rue Toussaint Louverture 09 BP 2877 Abidjan 09 – Côte d’Ivoire, by July 31, 2021 at the latest, the postmark being taken as proof.

As part of Makanati project, CFI is launching a call for applications to identify and select Yemeni and Iraqi civil society organizations, working on gender equality and women’s rights.

“Makanati” project promotes a wider participation of women in Iraqi and Yemeni societies and a better understanding by the local population of their challenges and problems, particularly through the production and dissemination of media content. Moreover, the project aims to raise awareness among journalists and future journalists about gender equality and women’s rights in the media. The project also contributes to enhance the professional skills of female journalists, in order to promote their access to decision-making positions.

For Yemen, selected CSOs will participate to national seminars with Yemeni media as well as women and men journalists sensitive to gender equality. The objective of the seminars is to promote a common reflection on the issues of gender equality in Yemen and identify the main needs and concrete possible actions through media. The first seminar will take place in October 2020. The second one in planned for 2021.

For Iraq, selected CSOs will participate to national seminars on advocacy actions in Iraq, to encourage the evolution of the laws and practices related to gender equality in the media. Two seminars are planned for 2021.

As part of the “Afri’Kibaaru” project, financed by the French Development Agency (AFD), CFI Agence française de développement médias proposes to support 48 media outlets in sub-Saharan Africa in producing new content – in African languages and in French – on sustainable development issues.

 

CFI is implementing, in partnership with France Médias Monde, the Afri’Kibaaru project to support the production and dissemination of information related to sustainable development, in several local languages, and the training of journalists in dealing with these issues. The training component of the “Afri’Kibaaru” project, operated by CFI, aims to strengthen the skills of a large network of African media and journalists in the field of information and facilitation of public debate on issues related to sustainable development. The project is being implemented in 6 countries: Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Chad and Senegal. “Afri’Kibaaru” is a project financed by the French Development Agency (AFD).

 

The project aims to improve and perpetuate skills in the production and dissemination of reliable and attractive media content, and to offer selected media outlets opportunities to specialize in sustainable development issues. More specifically, the objective of the project is that the multi-lingual media offer in Africa should enable the populations to better understand the issues related to climate, health, education, gender equality, and more broadly to the objectives of sustainable development and to take an active part in the debates that concern them.

How the project will be carried out

The media training program is divided into six main components of activities that are organized by CFI over a 36-month period (beginning 2021 to December 2023).

Who is this call for applications addressed to?

The editorial offices that CFI wishes to support are those of media with national coverage or operating at the level of one or more regions of a country, and which are engaged in a reflection on the extension of their editorial strategy on the issues of sustainable development.

 

Eligible media and countries are :

Television channels

Online media integrating audiovisual modules into their editorial content

Participating essays must meet the following requirements:

 

The medium is produced in at least one African language;

The editorial team must be composed of at least 5 journalists;

One manager and 2 journalists must be committed to take part in the project activities (mastery of French required);

The management of the media has given its agreement.

Selection procedure

Applications will be examined on the basis of transparent criteria mentioned below, by a jury involving CFI teams and African experts.

 

The selection will be carried out in two phases:

 

Pre-selection phase and seminar: The heads of the 80 media organizations pre-selected through this call for applications will be invited to participate in a seminar on media and sustainable development issues.

Final selection phase: 48 media will be selected by a jury on the basis of an editorial strategy on sustainable development issues, elaborated by each media after the seminar. A memorandum of understanding between CFI and each selected media will formalize the commitments within the framework of the project. The media not selected will be informed.
