ARTERIAL NETWORK ZIMBABWE WELCOMES APPOINTMENT OF NEW NATIONAL ARTS COUNCIL OF ZIMBABWE BOARD
Arterial Network Zimbabwe (ANZ) welcomes the appointment of the new 9 member National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) board. The appointed individuals are singularly and collectively distinguished and accomplished professionals in their areas of occupation and we hope their knowledge and expertise will contribute to growth of the local arts industry.
The NACZ has been operating without a substantive board for over 3 years. The coming in of the new executive is expected to strengthen accountability and operational efficiency of the NACZ.
ANZ challenges the NACZ board to judiciously play a supervisory and advisory role in the implementation of the national cultural policy and strategy blueprints. At a time concerted growth of the arts, culture and heritage sector has been hamstrung by economic stagnation, visionary and bold leadership is demanded to steer fortunes of the sector.
The potential of the arts to meaningfully contribute to the national economy and social harmony remains apparent but under explored. ANZ implores the NACZ board to lead the process of elevating the status of the arts to being a primary human development facilitator.
In the principle of participatory governance, ANZ further challenges the new board to engage local arts, culture and heritage stakeholders so as to formulate policies and strategies informed by the express needs of the local artistic community.
ANZ wishes the best of luck and successful term of office to the new NACZ board.
