The steering committee of Arterial Network launches under the chairmanship of the Mauritanian Kane Limam Monza the celebration of the International Day of Africa through an interactive day of a New Africa, with the support of UNESCO as well as the national commissions for Culture, Education and Science, from Côte d’Ivoire and Mauritania.
The 5 regions of Africa are mobilizing through the country affiliates of our network to make the voice of cultural actors and arts practitioners on the continent resound to define their priorities and solve their problems. Through the affiliated members, a set of messages is also launched for professionals and decision-makers, for an Africa that is resilient and resolutely standing in the face of rapid and perpetual change.

PRESS RELEASE | Arterial Network Biennial Conference and Launch of the Fonds Arterial

28, 29 and 30 November 2017 | Abidjan | Côte d’Ivoire

As 2017 draws to a close, the activities of Arterial Network will be marked by three major events to further solidify the continental Secretariat’s relocation to Côte d’Ivoire. In late November, Arterial network delegates from across the continent will meet in Abidjan for the launch of the Fonds Arterial constitution, the Steering Committee meeting and the Arterial Network Biennial Conference.

The Fonds Arterial is a transnational and continental fund set up to support the African arts and culture sectors. Its mission is to support professionalisation along the cultural and creative industries value chain. Aware of the myriad changes taking place across the continent today, the fund addresses the creative sector in all its diversity, with special attention accorded to young people and women.

The launch of the Fonds Arterial constitution will be amplified by an exhibition of work by major African and international artists to be opened on the 28th of November at 18h00 at La Rotonde des Arts, Abidjan. Under the direction of Professor Yacouba Konaté (director of MASA and director of the Rotonde des Arts), the exhibition will include works by artists Soly Cissé (Senegal), Abdoulaye Konaté (Mali), Ludovic Fadairo (Benin), George Camille (Seychelles), Siriki Ky (Burkina Faso), Amahiguéré Dolo (Mali), Houda Ghorbel (Tunisia), Wadi Mhiri (Tunisia), Dany Leriche & Jean-Michel Fickinger (France), Daphné Bitchatch (France), Nu Barreto (Guinea-Bissau) and Amadou Sanogo (Mali).

The Biennial Conference will take place on the 30th of November 2017 at MASA’s headquarters, following the final meeting for the present Steering Committee on the 29th of November 2017. The governing and decision-making body of Arterial Network is the Steering Committee, representing the five regions of Africa. The purpose of the Steering Committee meeting is to report on the governance and achievements of the network over the past two years. The Biennial Conference is an occasion for the network to elect a new Steering Committee to guide the network’s strategic objectives and activities over the next two years. Individual representatives are expected to attend from the 17 African countries where Arterial Network has national Affiliates.

Arterial Network, represented by newly elected President Daves Guzha, is honored to attend the eleventh session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005 Convention) at UNESCO headquarters in Paris (12-15 December). Daves Guzha made the most of his visit by planning ,among other activites, a fruitful meeting with Jyoti Hosagrahar, Director of UNESCO’s Division for Creativity. The Heinrich Klose Association organized on Wednesday 4 July a meeting with the leaders and executives of the public administration at the Delegation of the European Union in Togo headquarters, around the topic of national reconciliation and the role of of art in peacemaking.

Among the capacity building activities, the staff of the Forum of Organizations for the Defense of the Rights of the Child in Togo (FODDET) attended a training on fundraising techniques given by Jean Luc Sonhaye, President of AN Togo and member of AN’s Steering Committee.

These technical inputs will enable the participants to improve their resource mobilization skills in order to achieve goals related to the protection of children’s rights in Togo.

CORA/Arterial Nigeria held book party for Nigeria Prize for Literature nominees

CORA/Arterial Nigeria organized Nigeria Prize for Literature, 2018 Book Party, in partnership with Cultural Foundation and the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG).

The CORA-The Nigeria Prize for Lilerature an annual event designed to celebrate the 11 finalists (long list) of the yearly Nigeria Prize for Literature endowed and promoted by the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas, NLNG. Its objectives are to help bring the works and profiles of the finalists to larger public attention before the announcement of the final three finalists.

“The objective of the Book Party as manifested in the past editions is to ensure that we bring the short-listed writers and books face-to-face with the literary audiences so that we could create conversations around the work and the author. Since the first edition, the Book Party has become a platform through which the shortlisted writers are engaged on their work by the public,” stated the CORA directorate, which has been a critical partner in the projection of the shortlisted works to the attention of the public.

CORA’s mission is “to create enabling environment for the flourishing of the contemporary arts of Nigeria and the continent, while its vision is “to make art and culture the prime destination for investment in Nigeria and Africa by 2018.”

The party’s special guests were authors of the 11 books loglisted, including among others: Chidubem Iweka (August Inmates), Denja Abdullahi (Death and The King’s Grey Hair), Soji Cole (Embers), Obari Gomba (Guerrilla Post) and Peter E. Omoko (Majestic Revolt).

The 2018 party was the ninth since 2009 and took place at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island Lagos on August 25th.
