PRESS RELEASE | Arterial Network Biennial Conference and Launch of the Fonds Arterial
28, 29 and 30 November 2017 | Abidjan | Côte d’Ivoire
As 2017 draws to a close, the activities of Arterial Network will be marked by three major events to further solidify the continental Secretariat’s relocation to Côte d’Ivoire. In late November, Arterial network delegates from across the continent will meet in Abidjan for the launch of the Fonds Arterial constitution, the Steering Committee meeting and the Arterial Network Biennial Conference.
The Fonds Arterial is a transnational and continental fund set up to support the African arts and culture sectors. Its mission is to support professionalisation along the cultural and creative industries value chain. Aware of the myriad changes taking place across the continent today, the fund addresses the creative sector in all its diversity, with special attention accorded to young people and women.
The launch of the Fonds Arterial constitution will be amplified by an exhibition of work by major African and international artists to be opened on the 28th of November at 18h00 at La Rotonde des Arts, Abidjan. Under the direction of Professor Yacouba Konaté (director of MASA and director of the Rotonde des Arts), the exhibition will include works by artists Soly Cissé (Senegal), Abdoulaye Konaté (Mali), Ludovic Fadairo (Benin), George Camille (Seychelles), Siriki Ky (Burkina Faso), Amahiguéré Dolo (Mali), Houda Ghorbel (Tunisia), Wadi Mhiri (Tunisia), Dany Leriche & Jean-Michel Fickinger (France), Daphné Bitchatch (France), Nu Barreto (Guinea-Bissau) and Amadou Sanogo (Mali).
The Biennial Conference will take place on the 30th of November 2017 at MASA’s headquarters, following the final meeting for the present Steering Committee on the 29th of November 2017. The governing and decision-making body of Arterial Network is the Steering Committee, representing the five regions of Africa. The purpose of the Steering Committee meeting is to report on the governance and achievements of the network over the past two years. The Biennial Conference is an occasion for the network to elect a new Steering Committee to guide the network’s strategic objectives and activities over the next two years. Individual representatives are expected to attend from the 17 African countries where Arterial Network has national Affiliates.
